La stagione dedicata all'orto sul terrazzo sta quasi per finire, ma ho deciso di tenere un ravanello per tutto l'anno, sotto forma di timbro.
The gardening season is about to end, time to keep a radish aside in the form of a rubber stamp, you never know.
Per prima cosa ho realizzato il disegno su carta semplice con una matita morbida, quindi l'ho appoggiato sulla gomma e l'ho pressato bene per far trasferire la grafite.
First step: I traced the radish drawing with a soft pencil, then I press it on the rubber to transfer the graphite.
Second step: to perform the carving I followed the external trace of the drawing using a small cutter.
Per il primo campione ho deciso di tenere la gomma piena per le foglie e di scavare la parte del corpo del ravanello per poterlo riempire con un secondo colore (per questa seconda operazione ho usato una sgorbia più larga).
In this case, I chose to keep the solid rubber for the leaves and to carve the ravish body (I used a larger cutter for this operation).
A questo scopo ho inciso una seconda gomma tracciando il disegno della sola parte rossa dell'ortaggio. Qui sopra vedete una prova di stampa utilizzando due tamponi diversi.
Then, I cut a second solid piece of rubber exclusively for the ravish body, in order to use a different ink pad from the leaves, as you can see above.
Per creare una cartolina completa ho inciso anche un foglio di linoleum con delle strisce a mano libera. Inchiostrandola di rosa ho usato questo timbro per creare uno sfondo al ravanello: prima ho stampato l'ortaggio in due colori, poi ho creato una maschera di carta per proteggerlo e quindi ho stampato sopra lo sfondo a righe.
I carved also a sheet of linoleum to make a striped background. Coloring: first, I printed the ravish in two colors; then, I masked it and I printed the background as the last step.
La stampa monocromatica è il modo più veloce per usare i timbri intagliati, ma volendo si può stampare il contorno con un colore leggero e poi riempire le varie aree con il medium preferito.
The monochromatic print is the easiest way to use the carved stamps, but you can also print them with a light ink pad and fill the areas using your favorite medium.
Qui non ho usato il timbro pieno del corpo del ravanello e ho invece colorato l'interno con l'acquerello e le matite colorate. Sempre con le matite ho ripreso il verde delle foglie, sfumando tra loro quattro tonalità di verde differenti. Come vedete, il risultato è molto diverso dal precedente, ma è bello avere la possibilità di scegliere quello che ci piace di più.
In the second sample, I filled the body with watercolor and colored pencil, then I over colored the leaves with different green pencils. As you can see, the result is very different from the first one, but it's always nice to have a choice, don't you think?
Tendo a dimenticare quanto sia divertente intagliare i timbri, dovrei farlo più spesso!
I always forgot how much funny is carving rubber stamps, I must do it again soon!
